Lodging & Rates

Are you interested in interning with Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary? Interns can commit to a minimum of four weeks to a maximum of twelve weeks.

There are two kinds of lodging provided by Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary: the apartment and the volunteer house. Interns can select their preferred accommodations. All lodgings include WiFi, and we offer laundry services.

The Volunteer House

Located within the center, we have two volunteer houses (equipped with numerous bedrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen and a common area). Each room offers two beds, however, volunteers can opt for a single occupancy room, though there is a price decrease for double occupancy.

Please note that the Volunteer House is the only lodging that does not come with air conditioning.

The Apartment

A great option for those looking for privacy (or air conditioning!) the apartment is also located within the center. There is a kitchen in the apartment, as well as a bathroom and a porch. The price for staying at the apartment includes laundry services, internet, a chef five days per week, groceries for the days when there is no chef, and transportation to all Alturas-organized activities.

Villas Alturas Resort

Villas Alturas resort is just a stone throw away from our animal center. You can opt to live at the resort and still come over to the sanctuary for the day. This top-rated resort offers visitors iconic views from the Pacific Ocean from its private, seaside villas. Breakfast is included at the hotel, as is satellite TV.

For this option, we charge $30 USD per day (lunch included) or $40 USD per day (lunch & dinner included). This covers your meals but also training and all the equipment we offer for your stay with us. You would need to communicate directly with the resort to cover costs for your accommodation and breakfast.

While volunteers can check-in at the hotel at any time during the week, orientation for new Alturas volunteers occurs every Monday and Thursday at 7:00 am.

Please understand that as an intern, you will be required to help with the orphaned animal feeds throughout the night (once per week). This means that you will be required to walk from the resort to the center at night time.
