Costa Rica’s Wildlife, In Our Care
Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates animals from a region that spans nearly 20% of Costa Rica’s protected land. Every animal that arrives, whether an injured monkey, an orphaned sloth, a displaced bird, or a reptile in need, receives specialized medical treatment in our wildlife clinic. Fragile and young patients receive extra care in our nursery, and animals that cannot return to the wild find a lifelong, safe home in our sanctuary.
Meet Our Residents
Every resident at Alturas has a unique story. Some arrived injured, others were orphaned, and many were rescued from the illegal pet trade. Today, they live in a protected environment where they receive daily care, nutritious food, enrichment, and dedicated attention from our team.
Click on their photos to learn more, how they arrived, what challenges they overcame, and the ongoing care they need to thrive. You’ll also find the monthly cost of caring for each animal and an option to become their sponsor.
