Hello! My name is Lexi Anguiano and I’m from California. I spent 5 weeks at Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary and it was an incredibly rewarding experience. As a junior vet intern, I gained hands-on experience in wildlife veterinary medicine, rehabilitation, and general treatments. Although I’m not yet in veterinary school, this internship allowed me to deepen my understanding of veterinary medicine as a whole and develop practical skills that will serve me throughout my future career.
Alturas provided an environment where learning is truly prioritized. The staff is knowledgeable, supportive, and deeply committed to making sure interns are informed and engaged with the sanctuary’s mission. Whether in the nursery, the sanctuary, or the clinic, everyone works with a shared passion and purpose to improve the lives of the animals in our care.
Working closely with veterinarians Caro and Yulie was especially inspiring. Their expertise, dedication, and enthusiasm for wildlife medicine were not only educational but also deeply motivating. Thanks to their mentorship and the overall experience at Alturas, I’ve solidified my confidence in the path I’ve chosen to become a wildlife veterinarian!
