My name is Lauren and I’m from the United States. I volunteered at Alturas for a total of two and a half months. My time at Alturas was a truly great and memorable experience! It was a lot of hard work but, at the end of the day, I loved it and found it to be very rewarding. Due to the length of time I stayed, I was able to do many of the things that the interns do such as work in the kitchen, the nursery, and help train the animals. Our daily routine included cleaning the enclosures, feeding and watering the animals, and providing enrichment. We also did things such as a beach/sanctuary browse and sometimes a fun educational activity. We got to do many fun things outside of the sanctuary such as trips to the beaches, waterfalls, and into town. I had the opportunity to work with people from all around the world. To me, nothing was better than being able to live in the jungle with such beautiful views and surroundings and being able to work with animals all day!
