Red-lored Amazon
Species:
Taxonomy: (Amazona autumnalis)
Spanish Name: Amazona Frentirroja
Story:
We’re here at the sanctuary because, like many parrots, we were taken from the wild and kept as pets. All of us were eventually confiscated from people’s homes, but by then the damage had already been done. We don’t communicate well with other birds anymore, and we’ve formed a strong, irreversible connection between humans and food.
Because we never learned how to recognize natural food sources or threats in the jungle, we wouldn’t survive if we were released. So we stay here as permanent residents, safe and cared for, even though the wild is where we should have been from the start.
